Simple Past Tense

Daha çok Past Tense olarak bilinen Simple Past Tense, İngilizce tensler arasında kullanması en basit olanlarından biridir. Eğer Present Tense’in nasıl kullanılacağını biliyorsanız, Past Tense’i öğrenmeniz de kolay olacaktır. Genel olarak, Past Tense geçmişte belirli bir zamanda başlayan ve bitmiş olan bir şey -ya da olay, eylem- hakkında konuşmak için kullanılır.

İngilizce’de Past Tense nasıl oluşturulur?

Past Tense’te ana kural şudur: İngilizcedeki düzenli her fiil için, geçmiş zamanda bir form vardır.

Bu kurala istisna olarak Past Tense’in To Be formu was ve were şeklindedir.

 

For example: The past tense of the verb want is wanted.
Wanted is used as the past tense for all subjects/pronouns.

• We wanted
• They wanted

 

Past Tense Regular Verbs

Düzenli bir fiili Past Tense formuna çevirmek için, fiilin sonuna –ed takısı eklenir.

• play – played
• cook – cooked
• rain – rained
• wait – waited

Examples of sentences using regular verbs in the past tense

• Last night I played my guitar loudly and the neighbors complained.
• She kissed me on the cheek.
• It rained yesterday.
• Angela watched TV all night.
• John wanted to go to the museum.

Past Tense’te negatif cümleler:

Past Tense’te bir cümleyi negatif yapmak için didn’t (did not) formunu kullanırız.

Bu, İngilizcedeki düzenli ve düzensiz fiiller içindir.

Can ve diğer Modal Verb’lerde ististani durumlar olabilir.
Aşağıdaki örnekleri birlikte inceleyelim:

Present: They don’t live in Canada.
Past: They didn’t live in Canada.

 

Present Tense’te olumsuz bir cümle ile Past Tense’teki olumsuz bir cümle arasındaki tek fark, yardımcı fiildeki (auxiliary verb) değişikliktir.

Both don’t and doesn’t in the present tense become didn’t in the past tense.

Past: You didn’t need a mechanic.

Present: You don’t walk to work.
Past: You didn’t walk to work.

Present: He doesn’t speak Japanese.
Past: He didn’t speak Japanese.

Examples of negative sentences in the Past Tense:

• I didn’t want to go to the dentist.
• She didn’t have time.
• You didn’t close the door.
• He didn’t come to my party.
• They didn’t study so they didn’t pass the test.
• We didn’t sleep well last night.
