TO BE (AM-IS-ARE)
"TO BE" fiilini etrafımızdaki nesneleri tasvir etmek, niteliklerini, konumlarını belirtmek istediğimizde kullanırız.. İngilizce bir cümle kurarken kesinlikle bir yükleme ihtiyaç duyulur. İçinde yüklem bulunmayan hiçbir yapının cümle olamaz.
Jack şişmandır.sıfat
Eddy bir doktordur. isim
cümlelerinde ilk bakışta bir yüklem görülemez. TO BE yani olmak fiili ya bir nesneyi yada nesneyi niteleyen sıfatı belirtir.
İçinde ( dır-dir ) anlamı içerir. To be cümleleri kesinlikle eylem cümlesi değildirler.İçinde hareket, oluş içeren hiçbir yapıyı anlatamazlar (yemek, içmek, uyumak...)
Biz to be eylemsizlik (nesnenin var oluş eylemi) fiilini tek başına kullanamayız.Çünkü mastar halindedir ve içinde herhengi bir gramerde zaman yoktur.
